On Monday May 25th, Rutherford held its annual Memorial Day Parade to honor the nation’s fallen soldiers. The members of Rutherford Volunteer Ambulance Corps marched down Union and Park Avenue proudly in recognition of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation. The red, white, and blue lights that normally stick out were overshadowed by the tremendous presence of Rutherfordians who lined the streets donning the nation’s colors, and flying the American flag with pride. It is a humbling feeling to know that Rutherford does not forget the true meaning of the holiday. It is not to celebrate the unofficial start to summer, but to remember that freedom is not free. The Memorial Day Parade provides the Rutherford First Aid Squad the opportunity to come together as a family, and march as one for the greater good.
