On Thursday June 25th, Rutherfordians took over Park Ave from Station Square to the Public Library for an evening of fine dining under the stars.
However, this year, the Rutherford Volunteer Ambulance Corps President Bill Gumbman organized the first annual “Cruisin’ the Avenue Car Show” fundraiser to benefit the Ambulance Corps, which relies solely on the generous donations of the community we serve.
With only about a dozen cars preregistered, the turnout of cars on the day of the event could not have been a more pleasant surprise.
More than 70 car and bike owners showed up with their hotrods, muscle cars, customs, and bikes!
The calendar was set back decades as vehicles from the 1930’s burned rubber on the streets of historic Park Avenue. People recalled their high school glory days when looking at the cars they once had, or at least dreamt of having. Restaurants turned the asphalt into patio seating for guests to enjoy dinner with a view.
The bar for next year has been set high, and will definitely be raised next year.
