Membership in the Ambulance Corps is open to all persons fifteen (15) years of age or older who reside in or employed in the Borough of Rutherford, or who reside in one of the contiguous Bergen County communities. Membership is also available to non-residents who are fifteen (15) years of age or over if they are fully certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by the New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services (http://www.state.nj.us/health/) or who are enrolled in an EMT course at the time of application.
Auxiliary membership is also available to those employees of the Borough of Rutherford, Rutherford Board of Education and Rutherford Fire Department members who are EMT trained or First Responder trained.
EMT training can begin after joining the organization. There is a tuition reimbursement program available to cover the cost of the training. You are eligible to receive reimbursement if you are taking the EMT course with the intention of joining the Ambulance Corps. Members in the EMS role are required to dedicate at least 30 hours per month to being part of an ambulance crew as well as attend two monthly meetings.
Members who assist in the 'business' function of the Corps have no specific time requirements other than what is necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the committees they serve on.
Membership application materials are available online and may be found by clicking here.
